RACE BRIEFING
East Yorkshire XC League, Race 4: Drewton
10:00 am, Sunday, 8th February 2026.
Hosted by Beverley AC & City of Hull AC.
Dear fellow EYXC runners,
We are really pleased to be bringing a race to Drewton again for the 2025/26 XC season and must thank Katie Taylor at The Drewton Estate, Tom Wilson at Little Wold Vineyard and Harry Sergeant at Weedley Farm for their support with this event.
Route:
The race is 6.6 miles long and is the route that starts and finishes in the same location as the previous race at Drewton, last used in 2025. The route removes the section that had runners using the verge of the busy B1230 High Hunsley Road and now turns off the public path and crosses two of the private fields belonging to the Drewton Estate. Undulating woodland, footpaths and field edges.
A Map of the route is shown below. The permission to use this route has been given for the race day only. Please do not recce the route across the private land at any other time. It is vital that we maintain the positive relationship with the land owners in this area.

The route is in an anticlockwise direction from Swinescaif Road, along Comberdale Hill, Comber Dale along the High Hunsley Circuit of the Yorkshire Wolds Way. The route follows East Dale, left onto the Drewton Estate and then along the edge of Austins Dale, left down the steep tarmac road, past Primrose Spring, onto Drewton Lane, over the old railway line following the track back to the bottom of Comberdale.
The route finishes with a loop into Little Wold Plantation woods before a left turn back onto Swinescaif Road and downhill to the finish.
Shoes and gates:
There is a variety of underfoot conditions, the course can be very muddy in places so XC or trail shoes are strongly recommended. As there are some stone tracks and a bit of road spikes are not favoured. There are a number of gates and stiles on the course, please take care and follow the instruction of the marshal. Please use the gates and stiles as directed and do not climb over fences or through hedges.
Vest, Number, Headphones:
Official club vests or tops must be worn and be the outer garment. Your race number must be clearly visible on the front of your vest. Strictly no headphones or other musical devices must be worn as marshal’s instructions must be heard and followed.
Time limit:
In the EYXCL series of races competitors should be capable of completing the events at less than 15mins per mile pace, which for the Drewton course gives a maximum race time of 100 minutes (1Hr 40min). If you think you may be close to or over this time please consider carefully before taking part and if you have any concerns, please discuss with your club XC rep.
Parking:
Free car parking is kindly provided by Little Wold Vineyard. The carpark will be open from 08:30am. You do not need to be there any earlier. The vineyard carpark is accessed from Beverley Road, South Cave. The nearest postcode of Beverley Road is HU15 2BB.
Follow the drive all the way to the top and follow the directions of the marshals. Please do not park on the Vineyard drive. The parking area is at the very top of the drive and has a pedestrian access gate leading out towards the start area following the footpath of Comberdale Hill onto Swinescaif Road. The Little Wold Vineyard car parking will give you a 10-15 min walk or 5-10 min jog to the start.
Swinescaif Road will have a temporary road closure sign part way along. The section from the start to the quarry will not be available for parking. Please only access Swinescaif Road in a vehicle if you are bringing items to the start/finish area or directed to by a marshal. Please use the car parking provided at the Vineyard. The alternate car parking would be Everthorpe Lane or within South Cave village.
If parking in South Cave village becomes necessary, please be considerate and do not block resident’s driveways or park on the verges or pavements.
