East Yorkshire Cross Country League invests in runner safety with new marshal rucksacks
As we get ready for the 2026–27 East Yorkshire Cross Country League season, we’re delighted to introduce an important new addition to our race equipment — seven specially prepared marshal rucksacks designed to provide additional support to any runner who may need assistance during one of our races.
The rucksacks have been made possible thanks to a very kind donation to the East Yorkshire Cross Country League, which has allowed us to purchase the equipment needed to put together these practical safety packs.
We’d like to say a huge thank you to our generous donor for helping us make this possible. It’s a fantastic addition to our league kit and something that will make a real difference to the way we can look after our runners out on the course.
🎒 Seven rucksacks, ready for race day
Each of our seven rucksacks will be carried by marshals and the back marker during league races, ensuring that essential items are available out on the course should a runner become injured, unwell or simply need some additional support while waiting for the professional first aid provider to arrive.
The packs contain:
- 🩹 First aid kits
- 🧢 Warm hats
- 🧤 Gloves
- 💧 Water
- 🌧️ Emergency ponchos
- 🥶 Foil emergency blankets
- 🔥 Hand warmers
The aim is simple: if a runner needs to stop, we want to be able to help keep them warm, comfortable and supported while professional medical assistance makes its way to them.
With many of our races taking place during the winter months, often in exposed countryside and unpredictable weather, having these supplies readily available is particularly important.
❤️ Looking after our runners
The East Yorkshire Cross Country League has always been about much more than simply racing. We pride ourselves on creating a friendly, welcoming and community-focused league, and that includes looking after one another out on the course.
Our marshals already play a vital role in making every race possible — directing runners, keeping an eye on the course and providing encouragement along the way. These new rucksacks give them another valuable tool to help support runners when they need it most.
The packs will not replace our professional first aid provision at races, but they will provide an important extra layer of support while a casualty is waiting for the first aid team to reach them.

It might be equipment that we hope never needs to be used, but knowing it is there provides reassurance for runners, marshals and the wider race team.
Seven rucksacks. Seven mobile safety packs. And another important step in making the East Yorkshire Cross Country League as safe, supportive and welcoming as possible.
